Jan LawrenceGill is from a family of creative artists. Her father worked as an Art Director for a major London Advertising Agency after working as a lecturer of typography – he was also a cartoonist and painted with watercolours for most of his career. Her mother was a textile artist and gained a scholarship to London’s Royal School of Needlework after she completed her formal education.
Jan’s painting career started as a watercolourist but once introduced to acrylics she quickly became a convert and has used the medium as a base for her work ever since…
“I just loved the colour and the ability to ‘change anything at will’, it was wonderfully freeing,” she said in a recent interview…
Over the past 15 years she has taught children and adults of all ages and abilities and lectured fine art in higher education.
Alongside her work as a professional artist she now specialises in running workshops using acrylics and mixed media, an echo of her latest body of personal work - her recent exhibition incorporated her love of acrylics, textiles and felted art.
Studied Fine Art at Southampton University.
Exhibited in London, Oxford, Salisbury and throughout the South of England.
Her paintings can be found in private collections both in the UK and abroad.
